Won the National U18 trophy

U18 trophy retained

Sam Sancar (W) Capt

Sam Gunning (E ) Vice Capt

A very frustrating weekend of light and fickle winds where the Race Officer was lucky to get 4 of the scheduled 5 races completed – There were times when the boats were truly not moving and certainly many times when the gennakers would not fill. Interestingly the overall winners were the lightest crew by far!!

After the first day there was a clear leader and 2nd place but the next three boats were all tied on equal points – it was hoped the 2 (3 intended) more races would resolve the situation on Sunday but in fact they remained tied on 16 points each after 4 races – The rules of sailing state “If there is a series-score tie between two or more boats, each boat's race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s)”. This took our team to 4th place but they still managed to retain their U18 trophy from 2019 (no nationals in 2020 due to Covid).

Sam and Sam sailed well and managed to retain their concentration through testing and exacerbating conditions – well done.

(MPR crewing for Nick Arran in a V3000 came 2nd)
