Sedbergh School Mixed-U18A vs  Lakeland Grand Prix Series - Final Event
On: Saturday, 21 Sep 2019
Venue: Away

Frustrating, annoying, contrary to the forecast………. “Never had such an annoying day’s sailing” etc etc

Conditions were forecast for 5-10 knots gusting 20 which would have been great if they had existed apart from occasional bursts – as it was sometimes the fleet as spread out around the course were experiencing hiking conditions and flat calm along with wind direction changes at seemingly random moments! Our team of Walter Keegan (H Capt), Rowan Barnes (H) and Sam Gunning (E ) set off with only Sam to complete and possibly improve his series position by hopefully coming first in the 4.7 rig for the day which would secure his Winning of the 4.7 rig for the series – it was not to be….. and in the final analysis 3 sailors shared a common score line of 1, 1, 1, 2 in their best 4 events – while there are mechanism for breaking this tie break, they do not envisage a series where they have never sailed an event all at one time! Rather than resolving that tie break they were declared equal 1st so Sam picked up a trophy and prize for 1st place – Congratulations. Meanwhile (in the background) our injured Captain – Geordan Moss – who had also qualified in the radial rig also picked up a prize for 4th (and 2nd youth) in his class. Again Congratulations

Next week sees us competing in the 3000 nationals down in Derbyshire at Carsington - we hope for better winds!!
