Match Report
Sedbergh School 1st XI vs  Rugby School
On: Saturday, 07 Sep 2019
Venue: tbc

18 girls travelled to Rugby to play seven twenty minute training games. After a slow start against Dean Close that saw Sedbergh go 1-0 down the girls began to compete better in the midfield and break the opponents high press. This resulted in Sedbergh having the better chances later in the game and equalising through Chess Cooke after fine work from Issy Flanagan down the right. Two well executed short corner goals from Beth Dowbiggin and two open play goals by Tash Cookson brushed Rugby B aside whilst six goals were put past Barnard Castle in the third game. A change of pitch saw Sedbergh dominate play against a well drilled and gutsy Bromsgrove but despite the lion’s share of possession and six short corners Sedbergh were unable to break the deadlock. Sedbergh found their touch in front of goal returned against Princethorpe and Newcastle Under Lyme where Chess Cooke scored her sixth goal and Tash Cookson her fifth. In the six pool games 4 were won and 2 drawn placing Sedbergh second behind Dean Close who had won 5 and drawn 1. In the third versus fourth play off Sedbergh again dominated possession and finally broke Cheltenham’s resistance with a late goal from Tash Cookson. MPS
