Match Report
Sedbergh School 1st VIII vs  Yorkshire Open
On: Saturday, 22 Sep 2018
Venue: Away

Sedbergh travelled to Brockholes Range, near Huddersfield, on Saturday for the Autumn leg of the Yorkshire Open County Championship. We took it as a compliment that expectations were high, despite the intuitive appearance that our shooters were out of their depth in a meeting largely contested by county- or international-level adult shooters – indeed, Sedbergh were the only school to send representatives. We began well at 200 yards before moving to 500 yards, where Henry Nichols (H) placed joint 1st with Dave Allen of Yorkshire, requiring him to ‘shoot off’ the tie. Sadly he finished the tie-breaker second by a point, but this still represents phenomenal shooting in a demandingly long twenty-shot competition. Sarah Rorison (R) showed greater consistency to take the Autumn U21 prize – a great achievement twelve months to the day after coming to Huddersfield for her first adult competition and placing bottom of the list! Meanwhile Daisy Armstrong’s (R) strong results in the Spring leg of the competition earned her the overall U21 prize and 5th place overall in the county, following her coach who came out 3rd.
